Pebble Dash Repair in Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth's mix of housing is unusual for a town its size. There are Victorian terraces and townhouses near the seafront, a large stock of shared houses let to university students, post-war estates climbing the hills and plenty of rural cottages a short drive inland. Pebble dash is common across most of it, and with the town facing straight into Cardigan Bay, that dash takes a lot of punishment.

The weather comes in from the west across open sea. Seafront properties take wind-driven rain and salt spray, and the higher estates catch strong winds from several directions. In the narrow streets behind the front, walls that see little sun stay damp and grow algae.

The most common faults we find are cracking around openings and at corners, hollow render on exposed gables, and stones washing out of weak top coats. Repairs here need sound preparation, carefully matched materials and good timing. Render needs dry conditions above about 5°C to cure, so we plan bigger jobs for the drier months and use short dry spells for smaller repairs.
