Tinplate-era terraces, post-war estates and seafront-facing homes: we repair pebble dash all over Llanelli and keep walls dry.
Ask someone in Llanelli what their house is finished in, and very often the answer is pebble dash. It was the go-to finish for decades, applied to new estates and added to older terraces whose brick or stone had started to let damp in. Much of it is now forty, fifty or even seventy years old, and while plenty is still sound, a lot is cracking, bulging or turning green.
We carry out pebble dash repairs all over Llanelli, from the town centre out to Felinfoel, Dafen, Llwynhendy and the coast. We fix cracks, patch blown areas with a colour-matched dash, re-dash where needed, and clean dash that is sound but stained. We also work on shops and business premises.
The aim is always the same: a wall that keeps the weather out and looks right. We will tell you honestly which of those it needs.

Llanelli's growth came with tinplate, steel and coal, and the town still has long runs of terraced housing built for the families who worked in them. Many of those terraces were later dashed or rendered, sometimes in the 1950s and 60s, sometimes much more recently. Around them are large inter-war and post-war council estates and private semis where pebble dash was the finish from day one, plus newer developments towards the edges of town.
The town faces the Loughor estuary and Carmarthen Bay, so wind-driven rain and salty air come straight in, particularly in districts close to the shore. The flat coastal land offers little shelter. Further north, houses climbing towards Felinfoel and Swiss Valley get more rain and colder nights. Those conditions are hard on old dash. Water gets into hairline cracks, freezes and pushes the render off, and walls that rarely see the sun stay damp for long periods, growing algae and moss.
Because so many Llanelli properties were dashed over older walls, we take care when deciding how to repair. Older solid walls benefit from breathable finishes, and removing old dash from soft brick can do more harm than good. We survey first, so the repair suits the building underneath rather than just the surface.
Many Llanelli homeowners come to us after years of piecemeal fixes. If the wall is mostly sound, targeted patch repairs are the economical answer. Where it is failing across a whole face, we can re-dash or offer rendering over pebble dash, including thin-coat silicone and acrylic systems. We explain the pros and cons of each before you choose.
Good to know
A bulging area of dash has usually lost its bond with the wall and can drop without warning, especially after frost. Keep people away from underneath it and get it looked at soon. We tap-test the whole gable, remove loose sections safely and repair back to sound render.
Properties close to the estuary and the coastal park are more exposed to wind-driven rain and salt. We pay attention to cleaning out contaminated render, sealing repair edges and protecting fresh work until it cures. Good gutters and sills matter even more on these walls.
Estates were often dashed in one batch, so the aggregate on a road tends to be similar. We compare samples on site and show you the closest options. Weathering means an exact match is not always possible, but we get it as near as we can and blend the edges carefully.
Usually, yes. We can plan scaffold to keep the entrance clear, work in sections and, where it helps, start early or finish around trading hours. Our commercial pebble dash repair service is set up for shops, flats above shops and business premises.
Spring to early autumn generally gives the best chance of dry, mild days. Render needs dry conditions and temperatures above about 5°C to cure properly. We watch the forecast closely, sheet the scaffold if needed and would rather move a day than put render on in rain or frost.
Services
Every service below is available in Llanelli and the surrounding area. Tap one for the full details.
We begin with a careful look round the property, tapping the dash to find hollow areas and checking the cause of any damage, such as a leaking gutter or a cracked sill. You get a written quote explaining what we found and what we recommend. Before we start, we show you aggregate samples on the wall, agree where the scaffold and van will go, and check with neighbours if access crosses their property. Work is planned around dry weather, with sheeting ready for passing showers. At the end, we take away debris and clean down windows, paths and drives. Call 07565 147 170 or use the enquiry form to arrange a visit.

It depends on the area of dash to be repaired or replaced, how much is hollow underneath, height and scaffold needs, the type of aggregate, and any cleaning or painting you want. Older terraces with complicated bays take longer. We provide a clear written quote after a free survey.
We work hard to make it blend, matching pebble size and colour and showing samples first. New stones may look a little brighter for a while, as the old dash has collected years of dirt. Cleaning the surrounding wall can help the repair settle in faster.
Sometimes, but not always. On older Llanelli terraces the brick underneath may be soft or patched, and removal can damage it. We survey and test a small area first. Often rendering over the dash, or re-dashing, gives a better result for less risk.
Most repairs do not need consent, but listed buildings and some conservation areas may. Re-rendering a large area may also bring in Building Regulations requirements for insulation. We suggest checking with Carmarthenshire County Council before major changes.
Yes. We use a soft-wash method rather than blasting with high pressure, which can strip pebbles from older dash. A biocide treatment kills algae and moss at the root, and the wall is rinsed gently. Damaged areas are best repaired before or after cleaning.
